A nod to her Native American heritage | Omaha senior pays tribute
Can you spot me in the back row? I’m on the very left, and this picture is from over 10 years ago! You may be wondering what this has to do with a senior portrait session, but stay with me. You see, the lady in the front row, second from the right in the short sleeved red sweater is Lisa, and she reached out to me earlier this year because her daughter is a senior in high school (how did that time go by so fast?!). Before I opened my photography business, and before I had children, I worked in the PR office at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Lisa was a colleague. I was delighted to hear from her again after all these years!
Aside from the huge honor of photographing such a special time in her daughter’s life, knowing that they also wanted to incorporate special items from their Native American heritage made it all the more special to me. After a short consultation over Zoom, and a senior questionnaire that I send to all of my senior clients to get to know them better, I was ready to start planning the perfect session for Hayli.
Notice the eagle feather, ribbon skirt and necklace Hayli is wearing? These are all items that are important to her and her heritage. And in the images below, you’ll notice I took some mother/daughter portraits, including one with a star quilt they brought along that’s also special to them.
We also took portraits of Hayli with her shawl. I just loved the way the fringe moved, and we had fun swaying, turning and swishing it back and forth to take these portraits.
After a quick outfit change, we took a few more portraits at our first location before moving to our second spot, which included water that Hayli had noted she wanted to incorporate into one of the locations. Here, we were able to put her beautiful star quilt on full display next to a pond, with a few visitors that swam by :)
I absolutely love the images and the final art collection that Lisa and Hayli chose to display her portraits. An 8x8 book with a metal cover and genuine leather with white stitching is a stunning and classic choice, as well as wallets and gift prints to hand out to friends and family. And a gorgeous, mounted fine art 11x14 portrait of the two of them.
