A Omaha family portrait session with a special guest appearance

Meet my dear friends, the Atkins. Oh, and during their session, we also met some other “deer'“ friends, as well.. (More on that in a bit). DeeDee and I became friends through a mothers group at our church while we were both pregnant with our boys and we’ve been best buds ever since. There were many a late nights we would both be up nursing our babies and would hop on messenger to see if the other was there. We are well past the newborn days, but over the years, they’ve become those friends that we qualify as family. It’s always such a privilege for me to photograph those who are closest to me, and I think we captured some pretty special memories of their sweet family.

If you’re wondering about the lower right picture, I had just asked Mom & Dad to kiss which resulted in some disgusted looks from their children. We were all laughing at the reaction!

This family loves the beach, and while I was unable to transport them somewhere warm & tropical for their portraits, we were still able to find this beautiful spot.

The air got a little chilly next to the water, but that’s Nebraska weather for you!

As we drove around the preserve to the next location I had in mind for them, it was the perfect time to capture some of those golden hour images that we family photographers often talk about so often. That warm, golden light that makes the trees sparkle and gives everything a cozy, beautiful glow.

With the temperature getting colder and the light changing rapidly, we headed to the last spot I had scouted for our time together. Little did we know that we would be greeted by a family of 4-legged friends! The deer are apparently acclimated to the people that frequent the preserve because they sure didn’t seem too scared of us! I thought one was going to walk right up to me as I was rummaging through my camera bag to quickly switch out my lens!

And just for a fun little trip down memory lane, here’s a few pictures from their last session with me, 4 years ago!! Look at how much the kiddos have grown up! I’m so glad that they have these portraits to document their family and to pass on to generations. Because if we’re honest, we all too often ask that question, “Where did the time go?” as we watch our children grow and mature.
