Family Fun on the Fourth
As a family and child photographer, nothing gives me more joy than the smiles, giggles and pure bliss that my kids experience on the Fourth of July. It is, indeed, my oldest daughter’s favorite holiday, and she reminds us of that every year when June rolls around, as she eagerly anticipates the turning of the calendar page one more time to get to her beloved Fourth of July. She plays patriotic songs weeks in advance, belting out the Star Spangled Banner as loud as she can, and asking us just a few hundred times leading up to the 4th about when we can go buy fireworks.
There is nothing like the enthusiasm and excitement of a child when they are immersed in the things that they love so dearly, and it is forever my goal to translate this into photographs for us to enjoy years down the road as we reminisce about these seasons of life that seem to be gone within the blink of an eye.
The Fourth of July, is to me, synonymous with family - and while this year, the gatherings may be smaller for some due to COVID-19, I am still looking forward to capturing the love and connections that go hand in hand with summer and Independence Day. Whether it’s gathering around a table for good food, and maybe some homemade ice cream and pie! Or, parents snuggling in with their children (who are up WAY past their bedtimes) to watch the magical lights and sparkles of the fireworks in the evening sky; Or hearing the laughter and giggles of cousins reunited as they play, hang out, or shoot off fireworks (if they’re old enough!). It is a time to be together, enjoy each others’ company and celebrate the great freedoms that we have here in America.
This year, more than any, has reminded me of how fragile life really is; that freedom comes at a cost; and has given me a deeper appreciate for the freedom(s) I’ve enjoyed. Whatever your plans are for this crazy year of 2020 and Independence Day, I hope you have time to pause and reflect on this as well, that you will find blessings all around you, that you will have fun and be safe!
